Gore wears two crowns and means both: brown trout capital of the world, with a giant fish by the road to settle any argument, and country music capital of the country, with the Gold Guitars to prove it. Throw in the Hokonui moonshine history and you’ve got a town with proper stories.

It’s a Southland service town through and through, sat among rich farmland with the Mataura River running past. The pace is unhurried, the community’s tight, and the house prices are about as gentle as they come anywhere in the country. For fishing, twang and genuine affordability, it’s a one-stop shop.
