Western Bay of Plenty District

The Western Bay is the green ring around Tauranga, and it’s where a good chunk of the country’s kiwifruit comes from. Te Puke calls itself the kiwifruit capital and means it. Roll past in autumn and the orchards go on for miles.

It’s a district of small coastal towns and rural settlements rather than one big centre. Waihī Beach at one end, orchards and lifestyle blocks through the middle, and the pull of Tauranga close enough to use without living in it. People come here for space, a bit of land, and beaches that don’t charge city prices to live near.
