This is Frankton in Queenstown, on Lake Wakatipu. Different place from Frankton in Hamilton (which is 1,200 km north). The Queenstown one sits 8 km northeast of Queenstown CBD at the end of the Frankton Arm, where Lake Wakatipu narrows toward the Kawarau River.

Queenstown Airport is here. So is most of Queenstown's shopping: Remarkables Park Town Centre and Five Mile Shopping Centre between them cover supermarkets, fashion, banks and dining. Most Queenstown locals do their actual weekly shop here, leaving the lakefront cafés to visitors.

Frankton Beach is family-friendly and shallow, with electric BBQs and clean toilets, and one of the best plane-spotting spots in the country given the airport directly across the road. The Frankton Track is a flat 7.3 km lakeside walking and cycling path that runs all the way to Queenstown CBD, passing Frankton Marina along the way (good coffee at the Boatshed, craft beer at Altitude Brewing).
