Wadestown is a hill suburb just north of central Wellington, on the western slopes of the city's northern hills. It has the streetscapes of a place that decided what it wanted to look like in 1925 and stuck to it: heritage villas, tree-lined roads, no apartments, no chain retail, no plans to change any of that.

Wadestown School (founded 1875) is one of Wellington's oldest primaries. Onslow College handles the secondary kids in the wider catchment. The Pitt Street village shops do the local job: a Four Square, the pharmacy, a couple of cafes, the post office, the library. Everything closes by 6pm and that's the way it stays. If you need something at 8pm, drive to Thorndon.
