Hauraki District

Waikato · 24 suburbs

Hauraki is the home of Paeroa, world famous in New Zealand for the soft drink and the giant L&P bottle that proves it, plus the dramatic Karangahake Gorge and Waihī, the town with a working gold mine in the middle of it, an enormous pit you can peer straight down into.

It’s a district of small towns, the Hauraki Rail Trail threading between them, sat handily between the Coromandel beaches and the Waikato plains. It’s quiet, it’s characterful, and it’s affordable, with enough going on to keep it interesting and not so much that it loses the plot.

There are 24 suburbs and localities across the district. This page gathers them so you can compare properly: who lives where, what it costs, how the schools sit, and how far each spot really is from the coast and the cities.

Fizzy drink fame, gold mines and good rail trails. Pick a suburb and have a look at Hauraki.
