Westmere is a quiet inner-west Auckland suburb between Grey Lynn and Pt Chevalier, around 4 km west of the CBD on the southern side of Cox's Bay. It's predominantly residential, mostly settled in the 1920s and 1930s, and has the relatively rare distinction of being a flat suburb with water access in central Auckland. Most Aucklanders couldn't quite place it on a map. That's not an accident.
The Westmere shops on Garnet Road and West End Road handle the local everyday: a Countdown, the pharmacy, a few cafรฉs, a takeaway or two, the Westmere Butchery. Eric Armishaw Park covers the green space, with playgrounds and a regular weekend dog-walker rotation. Cox's Bay Reserve gives walking access to the harbour.
