Bucklands Beach is an East Auckland suburb on the long peninsula that stretches between the Tāmaki River and the Tāmaki Strait of the Hauraki Gulf. It sits around 18 km southeast of the city centre, with water on both sides: the river estuary to the west and a string of white-sand beaches looking out to Rangitoto and Browns Island to the east.
The peninsula is the suburb's defining feature. Bucklands Beach Road runs the length of it, and houses climb to ridgelines that catch views in both directions. The southern tip, Musick Point, is a public reserve with a memorial to lost airmen and one of the more dramatic vantage points around the harbour.
Local children attend Bucklands Beach Primary and Bucklands Beach Intermediate, and most older students head to Macleans College on the peninsula's spine, a state secondary that runs to more than three thousand students and ranks among the country's larger schools. Half Moon Bay, on the western side of the peninsula, holds the marina, the ferry to downtown, and most of the cafes and supermarkets.
