St Heliers is the easternmost of Auckland's eastern bays, around 9 km east of the CBD at the end of Tāmaki Drive. It's a settled, family-oriented beach suburb with a small but high-quality village strip, a long sandy beach, and a slightly slower pace than its neighbour Mission Bay.

The St Heliers Bay village runs along Tāmaki Drive opposite the beach. It's compact: a Countdown, a few restaurants and cafés, a pharmacy, the local library, a bookshop, the post shop. The kind of village that doesn't try to be anything it isn't, and is reliably full of locals walking dogs on Saturday morning.

St Heliers Beach is sheltered, sandy and family-friendly, with a long pier at the eastern end. The cliff walk from the beach east to Achilles Point gives some of the better views of the inner Hauraki Gulf, including Browns Island (Motukorea) just offshore. The Stonefields development inland has added housing density over the past 15 years.
